Doing Well By Doing Good

I had the pleasure of photographing four fabulous young ladies for Dance At Home, in Thomasville, GA, this past June.
The photo session came about because I had popped into Sarah Daniel's store in March, looking for my favorite cosmetic brand, which she carried. We fell to talking, as is customary here in the South, and discovered that both of us had children who danced. That led to the topic of the second floor of her store, At Home.
While the main floor has all sorts of goodies to delight a woman's soul, the second floor, Dance At Home, is reserved for dancers. Leotards? Check. Tights? Check. Shoes of all descriptions? Check, check, check!
Not only does she carry everything a dancer needs, she provides extraordinary service in a comfy environment. For dancers, not all shoes are created equal. Sarah takes the time to partner each dancer with the perfect shoe.
Meanwhile, friends and family can either roam the store or relax on big, cushy sofas. (Having been through several pointe shoe fittings with my daughter, I totally appreciate the welcoming environment that Sarah has created.)
Why am I waxing eloquent about someone else’s business? Because I made a new friend back in March, and she had a problem. As it turns out, I had a solution. She wanted to attract more attention to the second floor. What better way to do that than to create gorgeous artwork for her walls? One picture is worth a thousand words, right? In Sarah’s case, we doubled that!
Ben Franklin advocated “doing well by doing good”. It’s 18th century advice, but it works just as well now.
